FAQ about the Helsinki Music Centre

Frequently asked questions about the Helsinki Music Centre:

Question 1: Will I be able to hear other types of music besides classical at the Helsinki Music Centre?
You bet! For example, the folk music and jazz wizards of the Sibelius Academy will appear on the programme.

Besides the Sibelius Academy, there are other, what we call external producers providing events in genres other than classical music.

Question 2: How much will the tickets cost?
Prices will vary according to the event/concert.
We are also looking forward to providing free events. The Helsinki Music Centre premises are open to all with no entrance fee.

Question 3:
What are the acoustics like in the Concert Hall? What about the other halls?
The acoustics in the Concert Hall, with a delicate echo, are specially designed for acoustic music. The music can be heard exceptionally well from all positions, all the way from the last row of the balcony to the front seats in the stalls.

The acoustics in all halls were designed for the particular use and purposes of specific halls. One of the halls (Black Box) is especially intended for electrically amplified music. Further information about the concert halls is available at Halls and other spaces.

Question 4: Will the Helsinki Music Centre be completed on schedule?
Yes, it will! The acceptance inspections will be completed by 29 April 2011.The site huts will be removed by the end of May 2011. Landscaping in the surroundings will be completed by the end of summer 2011.

Question 5:
Will the Helsinki Music Centre stay on budget?
The estimated costs for building the Helsinki Music Centre are MEUR 160 plus MEUR 20 for equipment. The estimate will be defined during the next months, but no big changes are expected. The cost per square metre will be approximately EUR4,000. For comparison, a bedsitter, or furnished sleeping and living room, in the Helsinki City area is worth much more at the moment.

For example, the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Sibelius Academy sell their tickets via Lippupiste. Several other concert organizers use Lippupiste as well, but Lippupalvelu is also a popular channel for Helsinki Music Centre ticket sales.
