The natural drying process has caused the contraction of the wooden cladding on the outer walls of the Concert Hall. Refurbishment of the walls starts on Wednesday 25th of June and will continue for three to four months.
‘The wood has shrunk more than was expected and has not respectively expanded the way it was assumed. Therefore, some of the paneling has partly come away from above. The situation has not caused any security risk at any time,’ states Juha Lemström, the Chairman of the Board of Property Holding Company Mannerheimintie 13a.
During the refurbishment, the wooden cladding will be detached and reinstalled in an improved way. The work will be conducted with minimum disruption to concert visitors.
As parts of the Main Foyer and the Balcony Foyer will be secluded for work, the entrance to the Concert Hall may have to be redirected.
The Helsinki Music Centre apologises for any potential inconvenience to the public.
