Together, Musiikkitalo and Tampere Hall will arrange the visit of this world-class orchestra. The concert in Helsinki will be part of the 10th anniversary celebration week of Musiikkitalo. Ticket sales opens on 23 June 2020 at 9. The concerts are arranged with the support of the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation.
Santtu-Matias Rouvali is currently principal guest conductor at the London-based orchestra, with his new position as principal conductor starting in summer 2021. Rouvali has been principal conductor of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013 and started as principal conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in 2017. He is one of our nation’s most sought-after international conductors and has debuted as a guest at the New York Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonie and The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra this season.
Shining as the concert’s soloist – straight from the world’s concert stages – is Russian pianist Denis Kozhukhin. The programme of the concert will be published later.
The concerts will be held as follows: at Musiikkitalo on Saturday, 11 September 2021 and at Tampere Hall on Sunday, 12 September 2021. The concerts were initially planned for October 2020 but were postponed by a year due to the covid-pandemic. Previously, the London Philharmonia Orchestra has performed at Tampere Hall once in 1990, during the opening year of Tampere Hall. Their previous concert in Helsinki was arranged at Helsinki Festival in 2009, however this is the first visit of the orchestra at Musiikkitalo.
– The concert was supposed to be part of the 30th anniversary of Tampere Hall, as this London-based orchestra also was with us when we opened in August 1990. And even now the visit marks a special occasion; Rouvali will conduct his new orchestra in the Main Auditorium of Tampere Hall – on his and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra’s home stage. Guest performances by world-class orchestras are always significant and we feel very privileged to launch our collaboration with the Philharmonia and Musiikkitalo, says Suvi Leinonen, Head of Classical Music at Tampere Hall.
– Witnessing the collaboration of Rouvali and the Philharmonia both in Tampere and Helsinki will be an unforgettable experience. We warmly thank the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation for the support and co-operation. Visits on this level would not be possible to arrange without support. Our collaboration with Tampere Hall enables us to provide a unique guest performance for an even wider audience in Finland, says Robin Lindeberg, Finance and Development Manager at Musiikkitalo.
