FRSO Film Concert: Alexander Nevsky (USSR 1938)
The film Alexander Nevsky (Soviet Union, 1938) is about the 13th-century Prince of Novgorod who defeated the German knights on the frozen Lake Peipus. Prokofiev’s music is as shocking as Eisenstein’s film. Wielding the baton is cinema specialist Frank Strobel, and dramatic Anna Danik sings The Field of the Dead.
PRE-CONCERT TALK at 6 pm, Main Foyer: Discussion between conductor Frank Strobel and producer Kati Sinisalo on “Alexander Nevsky and Sergei Prokofiev as a cinema composer”.
