Music for the loathsome tube and the black box – 20th-anniversary concert of the Tuomisalo-Marin duo
Saxophone player Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo and pianist Risto-Matti Marin progress from the vaudeville music of Jimmy Dorsey in the 1920s to the jazz-influenced Hot Sonate (1930) by Erwin Schulhoff, who was killed by the Nazis.
The first Finnish saxophone concerto, written by Yrjö Gunaropulos in 1935, is also on the programme, followed by first performances of works by Eero Hämeenniemi and Matthew Whittall. The evening ends with heavy stuff: works by Max Savikangas and heavy guitar wizard Yngwie Malmsteen.
