World music á la Sibelius Academy.

The evening includes two final concerts of Sibelius Academy’s world music GLOMAS-master’s programme.

Reeds from Catalonia is Manu Sabaté’s new music project in which he explores the sonorities of the Catalan gralla-oboe, clarinet and bass clarinet. Assembled by Sabaté, the quartet will perform new folk music based on traditional music and melodies. Lauri Salokoski’s Khyal Metamorphoses approaches the Indian Hindustani-classical improvisation tradition, Khyal, from his own Finno-Ugric viewpoint. Salokoski’s composition’s concepts, performance routines and composition techniques are a combination of north Indian music, African-American music and Western art music.

Reeds from Catalonia:

Manuel Sabaté, clarinet, bass clarinet, gralla-oboe

Arnau Obiols, percussions

Marc Figuerola, guitar

Joan Tomàs, double bass

Khyal Metamorphoses:

Gulfam Sabri, tabla

Jaako Suonio, guitar

Juha Kujanpää, piano
