Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival visits Helsinki Music Centre for the first time in December, performing works by Sibelius and his contemporaries.

Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival is Finland’s oldest and largest chamber music event. The Sibelius jubilee year brings the essential Finnish summer festival to Helsinki Music Centre for the first time. The concert programme is designed by Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival’s artistic director, Vladimir Mendelssohn.

“This programme presents Sibelius’s music surrounded by neo-modal, impressionistic, folk-traditional and post-romantic works but not in order to label him as one of them. I see Sibelius as an oracle who witnessed music’s stylistic division while constantly remaining unique. There is no need to attach or pigeonhole him into any mould - he is like a lighthouse, recognizable for his own merits and to be surrounded by beauty.”

Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival’s artistic director, Vladimir Mendelssohn.

The concert is a collaboration between OP, Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival and Helsinki Music Centre and a part of OP’s Luova Tauko concept.
