Hohka – mailla/halmeilla
Folk music ensemble Hohka is releasing their second album called 'mailla/halmeilla'. In addition to new pieces, the concert repertoire includes music from a performance called 'Sivuun nostettuja tarinoita' (Stories set aside), which premiered in spring 2014. Souvenirs from bygone years weave together echoes from the Irish Highlands, the roar of sprightly parties in Spain, and fantasy tours into the future. Folk music ensemble Hohka has been active since 2006. During the course of their career, the group has performed on all kinds of stages ranging from intimate clubs to festival arenas, and from concert halls to tramcars. Performances radiating warmth, humour and joy of living have become Hohka's trademark. In November 2011, the ensemble won the Nordic Championship in Folk Music in Sälen, Sweden. Their debut album 'Puutarhautuminen', released in December 2011, was given a warm welcome. Over the many years of making music together, the band's playing has fused into a unified sound. In addition to catchy melodies and a solid knowledge of tradition, Hohka's music is full of spontaneous joy of creation and sheer enjoyment of playing music.
